3.0.1 Stuck in Multitrack view, crashed in Edit view

This just happened today; been using 3.0.1 for years, Win 7 Pro, never seen this.

Opens with popup about a previous session exited prematurely: Continue now, Delete or Continue later

Opens defaulted to Multitrack view; when I try to switch to Edit veiw:

"Shutting down

To continue where you left off, restart Audition"

Followed by: "Runtime Error

R6025 - pure virtual function call"

"ok", and crashes

I can't resent Edit view to default

Saving or closing whatever session it thinks is open in Multitrack view doesn't work

choosing "Continue" "Delete" or "Later" doesn't make a difference

Earlier thread offered solution in XP or Vista (very old thread); how do I access hidden files in W7Pro,

in case that would work?

Old computer working fine, except for today's incident, first time ever.

I have Audition 3 and the same thing has happened to me. I'm getting the same error messages in the same order, Audition then crashes. I've tried to un-install Audition, but when I open the un-install tool another error message tells me  "Error 1327 Invalid drive: F:/"  the un-install tool then closes.  How did you eventually rid yourself of this problem? The Audition 3 download code, with its accompanying serial number, which you said you've got. If you don't have that, then you're out of luck because it's no longer available. It doesn't matter what OS you are using - except that it really doesn't like Windows 10 very much.

Okay, something new just happened.  I got into my old hard drive, where 3.0 was first installed in 2007.  I copied and pasted and replaced the original Default Edit View file, which as I said had been blank in my current, corrupted version, and lo and behold, I got my access to Edit View back!  Hold on, I'm not completely out of the woods yet.

For one thing, I still get a popup when starting the program, telling me "A previous session of Audition exited prematurely", and no matter if I choose "Continue now", "Delete", "Continue later", or just exit the popup, it keeps complaining about it whenever I open the program back up.

For the other thing, I uninstalled 3.0.1 before preparing to uninstall 3.0.  But, I can't reinstall 3.0.1!  I have it downloaded, but when I click on it, it asks me if I want to allow Adobe to alter my computer I give it permission...then it just goes away.  A flash, and nothing happens.  So, even if I have the universal serial number, there's no opportunity to use it.

I have a folder in my Adobe Audition 3.0 folder in my Run Path directory entitled "backup_301", but clicking on the application inside tells me it's missing "SharedControls.dll", and won't do anything either.

So, what do I need to do now to remove the confusion with the nonexistent "unsaved session", and get back to 3.0.1?

Six days without a response, and I am still awaiting advice on how to get rid of a popup that tells me I have a previous session that I haven't saved and can't close (because it doesn't exist), and I can't get 3.0.1 to re-load, despite having been able to resume work in 3.0.

I uninstalled 3.0.1 in preparation to uninstall 3.0 as you suggested.  I am so glad I didn't take that advice, because my first instinct was correct, I could just cut-and-paste a missing script file from a previous backup I had on hand, and was once again able to get into Edit Mode without it crashing...as you told me previously, wouldn't work.  This saved me from having to pay you monthly forever, for an updated version of the program I didn't need.

But, I want to get rid of that popup at the start, and I want 3.0.1 to load back on top of 3.0 like it should.  Whenever I try to start the file I downloaded from your own site, it just flashes and disappears, and that's not right.  I know I have the right code for installing it, but it never comes to that point.

The automated e-mails I keep getting keep badgering me to tell them if I got my problem solved, but apparently nobody's listening on that end.

Yes, you should uninstall your old version first. Your original disks are useless, and not required for any part of the process. The only bits of software that will work are the code from the website (with its serial number) and the patch.

Which code on the website?  What location is the code for 3.0?  I'm still in Win7 Pro.

Your original program and serial number won't work, as the authentication server was taken off line years ago - you have to use the download that was available with a universal serial number if you want to go beyond the demo version. Restoring code into installations that crash or seize is very rarely, if ever, successful; pretty much the only way to go is to reinstall.

Eureka - haven't located my 3.0 serial number, but I did indeed install that from the site under the universal number.  However, I immediately upgraded to 3.0.1, and I do have that serial number.  Where can I find the URL for that version?

Okay, I found the code I e-mailed to myself, as well as the identical numbers I wrote on the case the original copy of 3.0 came in.

I have my original discs for 3.0 installation, as well as the 3.0.1 download from the Adobe site today.

Now...what do I do with all this mess?  Do I need to first uninstall Audition 3.0.1 from my computer, then re-install both?  Or just install 3.0.1?  If I have to start with 3.0, do I use my original discs to load that first, using the universal code?

I can't find the log files in what remains of the 3.0 installation here either, I'm afraid. If you have the downloaded version of it with the universal serial number, then I suggest you re-install it - that fixes most things. If you don't have that, you either have to locate it, or update to a supported version.

I'd have to look around for my original program, and my personal serial number.

Meanwhile, any chance that the missing code in the "default edit ivew" file of the EW folder in the "default workspaces" could be restored by itself if I can copy/paste it from a another version here locally?  I'll be working at a radio station that has both the 3.0 and 3.01 up and running.

There is an appdata folder, but you will probably have to unhide it - by default it's hidden. And I did say that most of the FAQ didn't apply - which is why you have to do this manually.

I did unhide the AppData folder.  However, there is no "logs" folder in it.  Only folders of "user workspaces", all three of which folders inside are empty, and "default workspaces", of which there are code strings in the CD folder and MT folder, but two files in the EV folder: code string in the "Frequency Space Editing" file, and nothing in the "Default Edit View" file (in fact, it's simply a blank file).

There are 18 other files in the "AppData" folder.

So...what's next...?

Try restarting with the shift key held down, which will reset all the preferences to a vanilla state. The path to the hidden files is pretty similar to the one given at the end of the FAQ about crashes (most of which doesn't apply to Audition 3, but the paths do)

Audition Crashed-Now what?

Opening with the shift key down, still faced with popup about unfinished session, and the three choices.  Opens in multi view, as always switching to edit view still crashes it.

The path described in the FAQ isn't what I see.  There is no "app data" folder under either my username or Public user.  This is Win 7 Pro.

Also, there is no "reveal log files" option under "Help" tab in Audition 3.0.1
