I'm pretty new to auditon, is there a way to create a retro sounding 8 bit voice filter? most of the things I'll be doing in this program is just to sound cool.

People get this completely wrong - that's not about bit depth, it's about distortion. If you want to sound like that, it's pretty straightforward. You make a perfectly normal 16 or 32-bit recording, and then go to Effects>Special>Distortion, where you can experiment to your heart's content.

The number of bits determines the noise floor, not the sound. 8 bit recording is pretty much what cassette recorders could achieve natively - a noise floor of about 48dB. And they certainly didn't sound all distorted!
