Absolute newbie...how do I cut out part of a song and then loop it?

Hi forum, firstly I apologise for this absolute newbie question. I have tried Googleing an answer, watching Youtube videos but I just can't quite find out an answer.

All I want to do is loop a portion of a song. There is a beat that I want to create a loop from. I used the razer tool to cut out the portion that I wanted then went to clip-loop, but when I stretched it out again all it did was add the next part of the song. It didn't loop the portion that I cut out? I hope my question makes sense. I'm thinking that I may need to create an entirely new file from that portion of the song but I don't know how to do that either?

By the way, if it helps clarify things, I'm currently using CC2018 (the school is a couple of years behind) and was trying all this from the mulitrack editor, not the waveform editor.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

You can loop whole clips, but you can't loop just a bit of a clip - as you've begun to realise, you really need the bit you want to loop as a clip of its own. If you split your original clip around the bit you want to loop (highlight it and use Ctrl+K) you can right-click on it and select 'Convert to Unique Copy', which will give you a separate instance of just the bit you want to loop, as a clip on its own. In Properties for the clip, select Loop, and now when you select the loop handle at the RHS of the clip, it should loop fine without altering the length of the original.

So, the crucial bit is having just the bit you want to loop as a clip of its own.
