Adobe Audition :: Can't Record Sound Using USB Microphone after Updating to Windows 11 Pro 22H2

Hello my lovely community,

I'm facing a severe issue while trying to record my sound, Using USB Microphone after updating my Windows 11 Pro OS to Version 22H2 very recently.

It was mgnificently used to record sounds, before my OS was updated (when the version was 21H2).

I'm using Adobe Audition 2023 (Build:- 23.2.0.68), and it is fully updated, and using "Maono 903" USB Microphone.

To an alternative, I've been using Audacity to record sounds only, but while recording, it skips/drops some of the sounds (waveforms) in the recorded files, and thus I've to record those parts multiple times.

Also, while importing the files and trying to play/edit/mix them in Adobe Audition, it shows "Detected Dropped Samples" messege.

I'm attaching the video of the issue I'm facing, for your convenience, so that you can visualize it.

It's my earnest request to this lovely community...Please help me out of this adverse issue and suggest me a way-out to overcome the same.

Tons of thanks in advance...Somnath

I encountered the same problem. The OS version is 23H2 and the audition version is 2025. Follow the steps below

I'm not surprised that you have dropped samples with the latency set that low. And have you actually done what the Audition error message (bottom left) said? Tried setting the mic, and the recording sample rate, to 44.1kHz?

If you have, and it's made no difference, then from what others have said, I still wouldn't be that surprised - there have been all sorts of complaints about weird things happening with Windows 11. I'm in no hurry at all to do that 'upgrade'...

Hi Steve, thanks a lot for pointing me out to the Latency issue, I missed that earlier.

Regarding the sample rate, earlier I tried the both 44.1kHz and 48 kHz (it's already in the video I sahred), but none of these worked for me.

Also, after going through your reply, just now tried again with both of the sample rates (the screenshots are attached herewith), but unfortunately the recording issue remains the same (I'm afraid, if this is the result of the updation of the OS to Version 22H2???)

Thanks again for your nice explanations.

I've just been hunting for a solution to the same symptoms. My Rode NT-USB works fine in everything but Audition. It worked fine on Audition on my old laptop (just an earlier version of this Dell Precision with the then current, but now older, version of Win11 Enterprise) but Audition on the new machine didn't seem to see the audio from Windows, and its rendering stuttered as it scrolled the file cursor in the track as if it was struggling to read from the OS's audio source it was trying to access.

In the end, after trying all the suggestions in this and similar threads on the community, I stumbled across the "Listen on this device:" switch on the Win11 Microphone Properties dialog below. Setting this On brought the Mic source back into Audition as on my earlier build.

I initially got audio feedback from Windows sending the signal out of the default speakers irrespective of the Audition output settings, so I switched the Playback through... setting to the headphone "speaker" output of the mic, which at least isolated the output from the mic's reach. With this set, Audition behaves as it did on my previous build and, aside from the annoying Windows monitoring/output issue, seems to have fixed things here.

I wonder if Audition is reading audio from the OS in a way which in later versions of Win11 only works with this switch set?
