Take a look at this thread Audition doesn't record audio . Due to security settings in Mojave apparently all audio inputs get turned off when you upgrade to it. This is apparently a problem with a lot of audio software on the Mac with latest OSX. Certainly turning off the security setting has helped people with the latest version of Audition. don't know if it will sort it on CS 5.5 but worth a try I should have thought.

Spoke to Adobe tech for THREE HOURS,. Finally, they said that Audition does NOT work with Mojave and that for the time being I would have to revert to High Sierra. Very, very difficult task according to an Apple tech who has had issues with Adobe recently.

So Adobe will have to fix the problem. They don't see to be in any rush.

    SUCKS.

Hi, Max, thanks. Can you offer that phone number? Doubt I will call it, though. I have the option of recording in Audacity, then Importing into Audition, but who wants to make those extra steps? I hope they intend to create a fix, or I will have to look for a new program. I also spoke with an Apple Tech about rolling back to High Sierra, so I will not be doing that. If you hear of a fix, please reply the minute you hear the 'good' news, ok? Thanks.

Should have said “chatted” with tech on the Adobe site. Live chat.

I am surprised that Audacity is working because it wouldn’t work for me!

Tried installing Audacity and recording but had the same issue, and according to a compatibility report I saw online, Audacity does not work with Mojave, either.
