Adobe audition not recording.

Question

I have adobe audition 1.5 yes I know that it is old
It has worked fine for years
Now I want to record speech in real time from my computer but the red record button simply will not work. I press it and nothing happens
 
ALl the other functions work. any cluse as to what's wrong?

Are you trying to record in Multitrack or Waveform (Edit) view? If in Multitrack, you have to select a suitable input, and enable the record function on the track before the actual Record button will work.

And what exactly do you mean by 'record speech'? From a microphone, or from an external streaming source? If you are trying to record speech from an app in Windows, then Microsoft really don't make it easy for you these days; there are easier ways of doing this using custom apps designed to get around Microsoft's restrictions.
