Adobe audition won’t launch after windows 11 25h2 update

Since installing the Windows 11 25H2 update (released [insert date you installed it]), Adobe Audition has stopped working correctly. The program either fails to launch or loses access to audio devices once opened.

System details:

  • Windows 11 Version: 25H2 (Build [insert full build number])
  • Adobe Audition Version: [e.g., 25.3 or 25.2]
  • Audio Device: [e.g., Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 / Realtek HD Audio / USB mic]
  • Driver type: [ASIO / MME / WASAPI]

Symptoms:

  • Audition crashes on start up
  • “Error 0xc000007b” on attempting to launch

Steps already tried:

  1. Reinstalled or updated audio drivers
  2. Reset Audition’s preferences
  3. Tested different driver modes (ASIO, MME, etc.)
  4. Uninstalled and reinstalled Audition
  5. Rolled back the Windows 25H2 update (Audition works again after rollback)

Request:

Please confirm if this issue has been reported to Adobe engineering or if there’s a workaround for Windows 11 25H2 users. Any guidance on compatible drivers or a patch update would be appreciated

Thanks,

Áine

First thing to say is that I'm running Audition with Win11  25H2 with absolutely no problems at all, so I don't think there's a universal fault here - and anyway, if there was, then loads of people would have reported it.

What I would recommend initially is uninstalling Audition using the Creative Cloud Cleaner app. This does a much more comprehensive uninstallation so that when you reinstall, it's generally cleaner. This tool is specifically designed to help with installation issues. The second thing to try is updating the CC installer app itself - this has been known to cause all sorts of startup and run issues (probably to do with security, which the app helps with checking).

So I'd try those first.

Thanks for the reply. Adobe support tried all of that and told me it was a Microsoft issue with C++ files but it literally stopped working since the update installed last night and if Adobe support (who took control remotely of my laptop) can’t solve it I’m at a loss.

Did they replace the C++ libraries? That's a relatively straightforward thing you can do yourself. Whilst I can understand why you might want to trust what Adobe support said, there are a couple of points about this: Firstly, they haven't fixed it, and secondly, their usual approach to issues like this that they can't resolve is to blame Microsoft, and then send you here. Is that what they did?

To be fair, support has to deal with the entire range of Adobe products, and the only way they can do this is by using crib sheets for each one. We don't have crib sheets and have to analyse peoples' problems on an individual basis (see below).

The CCcleaner app is here if you want to give it another go, with a reboot of the machine after running it. It seems rather unlikely that support will have done that, because they can't do the reboot remotely and still retain control of the machine.

I wouldn't give up yet. Even whan Audition doesn't start, it produces an error/crash log for each failed attempt. If you follow the instructions in this thread - Audition crashed - now what? and locate the log, it might give us a clue as to the point that it actually fails duing a run attempt. All you have to do is copy the log content and paste it into this thread.
