All .sesx suddenly have XML fatal errors

Unless I create a new session none of my current .sesx files are opening suddenly.  The error it gives me is "The file is either corrupt or using unsupported format" FATAL XLM ERROR etc.  the details in the error after that vary.  Its worth noting that the same thing happened to all my Cubase sessions at the same time. Also, all my backups have the same date and time and its todays date.  I'm hoping someone can explain to me how i can correct the errors myself in Notepad or whatever (if its possible)--specifically what needs to be corrected.  I saw a previous past post where adobe staff just repaired the file for the person but I've got a lot of files here and don't even know what caused the problem.  Any help is appreciated.

Just to clarify - these 2 sesx files are not fixable - there is not one line of XML anywhere to be found.  What it does look like is a random sector or two from a hard drive.

One last thing that seems worth mentioning: This all happened at the same time I began getting this Volume Shadow Copy Service prompt every time I boot.  I'm not familiar with what exactly that is but from what I gather it deals directly with XML files so it doesn't seem coincidental.  Now I can't help but wonder if VSS has somehow backed up my stuff?  or destroyed it?

Hmmm... VSC has a bit of form with .xml files - doesn't always return them correctly at all, apparently... I'd flatly refuse to have anything to do with it, myself.

Even though it sounds more like your PC or Mac is at fault, I still have one question; how old are these session files that won't open?

They're all recent within the last 40 days or so

Those sesx files are not xml or anything readable - the technical term I would use is - gobbilty gook

I would suggest that you check your hard drive for errors because it may well be failing

ran a scan and no errors were detected on the drive...at this point I dont expect to recover anything but I literally lost every Cubase and Audition session so I'm wondering if anyone knows what might have caused this or how to avoid in the future?  All the project files just turned into unrecognizable garbage instantly.
