Android video, separate man's voice from sing a long with mp3

Question

Hi everyone.I have an android video taken of my father in law singing along to a song.  He has just passed away 2 days after Christmas. I'm trying to either remove the song, or the vocals, or just lower the volume of the song and enhance my father in laws (Ron) voice.If anyone could tell me if it's possible and if it is,  guide me through the process I would be eternally grateful.I want to clean it up the best I can for my mom in law, thanks.

Is the recording stereo or mono? If it's mono then there is nothing you can do about it without it sounding a lot worse for it. If it's stereo, then you might be able to use the center channel extractor if the voice is in one fixed position in the sound field and the music is spread across it BUT... if it's come from a hand-held Android device, the chances are that the recording won't be anything like stable enough to do anything with at all, I'm afraid. And to compound the issue further, it's an MP3 file, and they don't like being played with at all, even when decoded back to a far more sensible wav file.
