AU won't record microphones

I have a new condenser mic connected to my Mac (OS 11.6.6) via a USB interface.

Audition sees the mic in Audio Hardware prefs, but I can't get Audition to actually /hear/ the mic, that is to say, when I try to record it captures only silence, but it gives me no errors. When I switch the input mic to my Mac's built-in mic, it also cannot hear, but again it gives no errors.

I see the mic levels in my Mac system preferences,  and I can use the mic to record in Premiere and in Ableton, so I know the mic and interface are working fine.

Why can't Audition hear the microphone?

Almost certainly because in your OS security settings, you haven't given Audition permission to use any microphones. I realise that this might seem a little bizarre, but it's one of the things you have to do (well, with Macs, anyway) these days.

Good call! That fixed it. Thanks!

Seems like AU ought to be able to show an error or notification when it is prevented from accessing a device by the OS security settings.

Difficult, because I don't think that it's aware that there's even a microphone available...
