Audio-delete quiet moments in an audio track?

Can Audition "delete" portions from a track that are below a certain volume level? For instance: if I have an interview track, I'd like it to get rid of all the quieter moments so I can freely move the other pieces about.

Possible?

Thanks!

Yes. You need to go to Diagnostics, and choose the preset 'delete silence'. Then you have to find the appropriate levels (it will scan for these in Settings), and then go back and scan your track. This will put a list of ranges of silence into the detection box below. Then you have a choice of either deleting the silences individually by clicking on 'delete' at the left of each one, or just hitting 'delete', which will clear all of them at a stroke. Personally I think it's safer to delete them individually, just in case there's been a detection error (not unknown with variable audio...)

I wouldn't be so keen to remove all the quiet gaps before editing. If you are going to be moving various clips about anyway I would have thought that it would be easier to keep the gaps so that you can easily spot the required audio clips and mark them to move elsewhere. You may need a bit of free space before and after to include in the clips to keep the edited speech sounding natural. If you are editing in the Multitrack view you can trim the wanted clips non-destructively as you go along by clicking on the ends of the clip and moving the In and Out points.

I think it rather depends upon exactly what your intentions are - and we don't know. Normally I'd never use this approach for interviews or even music, because there's a much better way to deal with it, but it was a fairly straightforward request...
