hello everyone,

i have a question about exporting audio from audition. i am kind of new to this, so i hope i can explain proberly what i mean:)

i have a file that consists of 2 tracks. on one track, one can hear people talking, on the second track one hears noise. both should be played at the same time but channel one only on left side of the speaker, the other channel only on the right side.

i want to use this file for an installation, where a visitor sits between the two speakers and hears both channels at the same time. any export that i am doing, i end up with a file that sends the output to both channels. what can i do about this? can anyone help me out?

thank you so much in advance, tanja

Surely if you've got one file with two tracks, they're already separated?  OTOH if these are two mono tracks, put each one on a track of its own in Multitrack view in a basic stereo session. On each of the track's controls, you will see a 'pan' control. Turn one fully left and the other fully right. Now when you do a mixdown of this (not an export), you should end up with a stereo track, but all of the contents separate between the two channels. This will open up in Waveform view - all you have to do then is save the result in a format of your choice.

This is a pan control panned fully left:

Hi SteveG! Thank you so much for your reply, it helped me already a lot. I just encountered a strange thing now and don´t know how to deal with it: When I want to do the Mixdown of the file, I cannot save it. Even when I select all the Clips, it doesn´t save anything anywhere. Do you have an idea what the reason for this could be?

    Greetings, tanja

Yeah, I wondered whether I should have made the 'mixdown' bit a bit clearer... I don't think you should be doing it that way.

Get it all set up in Multitrack view and then go to the Multitrack menu at the top and select 'Mixdown Session To New file>Entire Session' This will create the mixed-down result in stereo, and open it in Waveform view. It is possible to do this in Export, but it's not the easiest way; you have to specify the mixdown options carefully.

As for what's wrong with your screengrab - the tracks appear to be grey - which implies that they aren't actually 'present' in the mix, and are just appearing as placeholders. If that's the case, then there's nothing to mix down, so no options will show. You need to restore the files to where the placeholders are, by the look of it.
