Question

Audio "glitch" after 30+ minutes of recording

Hello,

I'm recording my voice using Audition 2020 thru a Behringer U-Phoria CUM202HD mixer. (Reading the newspaper for blind listeners of WJCT public radio in Jacksonville.) The recordings last 58 minutes. About once every 5 or 6 recordings, at roughly 30 minutes in, the audio suddenly sounds "glitched". It is chopped and sounds like it is slightly sped up. Unfortunately, I don't notice this until I've stopped recording and can listen to the playback. This may not be an Adobe issue, as I have used Acid Pro 9, and gotten the same result. I have attached a sample. Grateful for any help/suggestions. Thanks.

Unfortunately I can't help you but I can sympathize with you. I'm having a very similar problem with my Behringer U-Phoria UMC404HD. When I record in ASIA4all, about 1 in every 10 minutes of my recordings comes out all distorted. I can't figure out the problem either!

Has a lot of the symptoms of a resample that's gone wrong. And the most obvious cause of this is likely to be your OS. Do you have system sounds disabled? I presume that you're using a USB connection from the mixer, but this still gets controlled by the OS - you can't rule out anything. But there are other possibilities too - anything that can steal processor cycles can do it. So WiFi polling, antivirus software or any sort of app running in the background that has higher priority (there actually shouldn't be any, but you can never tell), all these things you should look at. The other thing is - how are you recording this? Waveform view or Multitrack? Generally a Multitrack recording is a better idea, as it's direct to disc, whilst Waveform recordings are made via a temp folder and not actually written to the file until you do the final save. There are  possibilities for failure in the mecahnism, but generally they are pretty unlikely, and wouldn't manifest themselves like this anyway.

Thanks Steve. Great suggestions, I'll certainly give them a try.
