Audition 1.5 under Windows 7 64-bit : pre-roll and post-roll not playing

Hi folks,

I know I should really update to a later version of Audition but 1.5 gives me more than enough functionality! Anyway, as to my problem/question...

I can't get the pre-roll and post-roll parts to play when I am editing WAV or MP3 files (I haven't tried it on other file formats). Both pre- and post-roll durations are set to 1.0 seconds. I know that I am supposed to right-click the Play button and select the appropriate enablement option from there - however right-clicking on the Play button (or indeed any of the Transport buttons) doesn't produce the usual context menu. Has anybody else experienced this issue? (I can't seem to find any similar reports on the 'net).

Adobe no longer provides support for that old version

Two ideas that MAY work to install and/or run old programs in Windows 10

-RIGHT click the program icon or EXE and select a compatibility mode in the pop up option window

-or Run as Administrator http://forums.adobe.com/thread/969395 to assign FULL Windows permissions may help... says Encore, but sometimes required for ALL Adobe programs (this is NOT the same as using an Administrator account)

I tried running Program Compatibility Troubleshooter and it replied: "Go to the Vendor site and get the upgrade. There's a free upgrade available at the vendor's website." but all it did was send me to: "www.adobe.com - slash - ca - slash numbersign" and I'm not sure what to do next but it doesn't look like anything free.

I have a problem which may be similar to yours. I tried to do a chat and they hung up on me.

I use Audition 1.5 and I've been trying to get it to work under Windows10 64 bit. It used to be great but now it, and my Sony DX plug-in are broken. I can read a file, operate on it, save it, and the next time I try to read it it comes in all strange-looking, saturated, distorted and sounds awful. I tried an old copy of CoolEdit. It read the file and played it, but wouldn't do it a second time, complains about a device.

So anyway back to Audition: help files are broken too, and everytime I do anything it wants to open a Microsoft site web window saying help files have changed, and I have to close it.

Aaack. As they say. WhaddoIdo?

All working OK here on Win 7 64bit. All the options appear in the right click drop down menus for all transport buttons. there are default keyboard shortcuts for several of the options. For instance Alt+R should play pre-roll and post roll skipping selection. So try and see if the shortcut works even if you can't get to the right click menu.

By the way it won't make any difference what format your original audio files are since Audition only works internally with .wav files. So any other format of audio will be converted to .wav on opening into Audition.

Given that you have no issues under Win 7, that led me to suspect something wrong with my system rather than Audition itself... and after a bit of experimentation, I found the cause of the problem! (And had bit of a "D'oh!" moment!) I'll document it here for the benefit of anyone else who hits the same issue...

I am running a dual-monitor system - both monitors being a Dell U2414H - in conjunction with a GeForce GT610 video card. Both monitors take their respective signals via their HDMI inputs. However the video card only has a single HDMI output, the other output being a DVI-I. So for one of the monitors I am having to use a DVI-to-HDMI adaptor... and it's on *this* monitor that the right-click menu is not appearing for the Transport buttons. On the other monitor - ie the one with a straight HDMI-to-HDMI connection from the video card - the menu appears and responds perfectly. Though why this right-click menu issue is limited to just the Transport buttons is very strange indeed!
