audition 3.0 won't open mp4 files in a way that a human wants to hear them

I want to open an mp4 that I purchased on itunes in audition. I get odd prompts from audition that I don't understand. It opens a messy loud hiss. How do I get audition to understand mp4s?

I doubt that Audition 3 will open it since the audio file format contained in the .mp4 wrapper probably didn't exist at the time that AA 3 was written I 'm afraid. You will either have to convert the file to a format that Audition 3 can open such as a standard .wav file or use a much more up-to-date version of Audition.
