Audition 3,. normalizing for radio
I normalize my entire song library.
I record my voice tracks, and compress those to the same max level as the songs are normalized to.
When I create a program segment, which is a jingle, a few voice track segments, and a few songs, with some cross fades, my voice is typically fine. The jingles seem way too soft, and the songs do as well.
So, after I mix down to a single file to save, I select the music segments (avoiding the cross fades) and normalize them yet again. Remember, these were normalized as individual files in the music library, to the same specs, but now the segments normalize much hotter, and the effect is much more to my liking. (I was an AM radio disk jockey in the 80s, an my radio show is a throwback).
Going over all the music segments in the mixdown file and re-normalizing before saving is arduous, and takes more time than I'd like. Why would the same song normalize differently, if the normalize specs are the same? Is there something I can do to avoid Normalizing music twice?
