Audition: Audio Effects windows have opened by the hundred!

Hi, new user here. An audio effect controls window for every single clip in my project has opened and closing them all is taking hours! They remain after closing and re-opening the software. Is there a simple way to close them all?
The problem may also be related to another problem I'm having- massive amounts of compression (I think) have been applied to every clip for that track and I've had to mute it to even work on the project.

Any help appreciated!
