Audition CS6 blew up my save and backup files!!

This is happened twice now, I'm using the Podcasts template and adding background music, while using the duration/remix feature I receive an error and audition closes. When I reopen audition it gives me the option to continue working  on the session I was working on except it reverts back to us save from hours earlier. When I go into my back up folder to open up the most recent back up it also reverts back to hours earlier in my work. Please help! I've lost hours and hours of work twice now and I'm way behind in my workflow.
