Audition CS6 gives a MME Device Internal Error on startup

Can anyone help me with the following problem?

I have a system running WIndows 7 with a Xonar DX2 sound card that has worked fine since installation (6 months ago), now when I start CS6 I get the 'MME device internal error' message.

This is a MME sound card and is using its latest drivers (7.12.8.1794).

The Audio Hardware settings are:

Device Class:     MME

Default Input:     Line In (ASUS Xonar DX2 Audio Device)

Default Output:     Speakers (ASUS Xonar DX2 Audio Device)

Master Clock:     Speakers (ASUS Xonar DX2 Audio Device)

Latency:     200ms

Sample Rate:     44100Hz

'Use machine-specific device defaults' is enabled

I had the same problem under Windows 10. When I set the compatibility settings of the program file (Adobe Audition CS6.exe) to "Windows XP (Sevice Pack 3)", almost everything works fine again. Just drag and drop doesn't work anymore.

I am also struggling with how to overcome this MME Internal Error.  I have CS5 and am running Windows 10.  I re-installed it but it's done nothing.  I was told that this version is incompatible with Win 10.  OK......  So is there a patch to resolve this??????  Audition is part of a master collection I bought four years ago that cost a LOT of money.  I do not feel that I should have to subscribe to the cloud version just because this obviously recurring problem was never resolved.  It's like Apple and their creative ways to get  you to constantly buy new phones.  How can this be rectified without the consumer, already a customer of yours, needing to plunk out more money just to continue to work as he did before.?

Try selecting a different Master Clock setting if there is one in the drop down box. The set it back to the Speakers setting.

What audio interface are you using with which version of Windows?
