Question

Audition effects are causing click artifacts

When I add effects I often get a clicking or short crackle/pop to vocal tracks.  I thought it was possibly a lack of computing power in my old Macbook Pro but no, I'm now using a very powerful Mac and still they come up.  I'm pretty frustrated about this and had high hopes that a new computer would solve it.  I'm crestfallen that it has not solved it.  If I disable or remove the effects, no more clicks/artifacts.  If I replay the part that clicks a couple of times that click might go away.  It's not clipping and it's not on the original recording.

As well as increading the buffer size, try pre-rendering the effects you are using - especially if they are heavy-lifting ones like reverb. Use the little lightning bolt at the top of the rack effects box to do this. Yes, it's undoable but makes playback a lot smoother.

Steve, just to be clear, I CAN undo a pre-render of the track or cannot?  The use of the word "but" makes this unclear - thanks for your help!  Also is there a way to "render" and do the same thing to a track to get rid of the punch and roll artifacts leftover so I can edit without uncovering the junk recorded over tracks underneath?

You can always undo a pre-render. If you feel happier swapping 'but' for 'and', that would be fine... No, it only works on effects - it doesn't alter the status of the junk at all, I'm afraid.

Try increasing the buffer size
