Audition error message when trying to record

Hi all, I keep getting this error message when I hit the record button in Audition. Please help!!

Ok so when I click 'save as', before I start recording, and create a new file to save it to, it then works. My guess is that by doing so I create a 'new path' that can then be used. Still not sure why this is happening though. If someone who knows could explain what's actually going on behind the scenes that would be great.

Unfortunately Audition can't create files in a directory that doesn't yet exist - and no, it can't create directories.
