Audition having a lot of freeze and lag selecting files and changing from multitrack to single file

Question

I'm using Audition to dub things and also to edit audio for video. This also happens without video, but mostly when having an image as support for editing. Whenever I click a different point in the timeline, or when I go from the editor window of a single wav to the multi-track, the software freezes for a few seconds.

The change of frame on the timeline almost always freezes if I issue a command too fast after clicking on a different frame, forcing me to click and wait for a few seconds before it renders (it appears) the video and then I can scrub at will that it will render all frames instantly.

I've tried using footage in one hard drive and the project in another, on the same, on different drives... but this always happens.

Sometimes if I click on a different clip on the multitrack this temporary freeze will also happen.

I'm using three different m2 drives and my processor is an i9-12900k. This happened across different machines (always using m2 drives).

The recommendation I've seen for M2 drives is that if you want to use them for video, you need the NVMe version (if your motherboard can support it). Are yours these, or plain M2? The other thing that immediately springs to mind with this sort of issue is video drivers. These seem to get updated at an alarming rate these days, and can make a considerable difference to the way video gets displayed, so it's well worth checking to see if there's an update, on a regular basis. Nvidia seem to update theirs every few weeks...
