Audition ignoring memory limits

In an effort to curtail freezing due to RAM usage, I have set "RAM available for (misc Adobe applications)" to 2 GB (leaving more than enough headroom for background applications/processes). However, when loading a large .sesx file (34 MB, 24 tracks), Audition's RAM usage exceeds this value up to two-fold, using the same amount as it did before I set it. Restarting the program doesn't help.

I'm sure this amount of memory usage is a given for the size of the session, but it worries me that AA pays no heed whatsoever to the memory preferences.

I am using Windows 7 on a laptop with 5.9 GB of RAM.

Thank you!

You have 2G reserved out of 5.9G. Are you saying that Audition is still using more than the 3.9G you've allowed it to use? It shouldn't be. And Audition isn't particularly RAM-heavy unless you use a lot of effects; even a large session relies more on the ability of your HDD to stream data, rather than have it in RAM. If you are using a lot of effects, then often the performance can be improved by 'freezing' (pre-rendering) tracks - this often improves the overall performance significantly.
