Audition immediately stops and starts when recording

Hello,

I've been using audition on my work computer for 5-6 years now, and as of yesterday started expericing an issue i've never encountered before. Whenever I go to record anything in Audition, as soon as I hit record the recording immediatley stops and starts. I originally thought it was a lag, but it's not a lag because almost no audio is recorded. You hit record, less than a second of audio is recorded, it stops, then after a few seconds it starts again, records less than a second of audio, and stop again. This just continues happening. I can't record anything because of it. My IT team is pretty stumped at this point. My first thought was maybe there isn't enough storage space on my laptop? I've deleted files and programs, but to no luck. 

Any help would be appreciated.
