Audition jumps

In Waveform view there is more than one way to achieve this. If you just want to pause a recording, then use the Pause control (to the right of the play button). When you unpause it, recording will continue from where you stopped.

If you hit the Stop button though, you will notice that your recording up to that point is highlighted, and the cursor remains at the point where you started recording from, and that's where it would start again if you pressed Record - as you've discovered. On the immediate left of the Record button is the 'Move Playhead To Next' button (Alt+right) and if you hit that, the playhead will move to the end of the highlighted section. If you now press Record, it will start from there - the end of your previous recording.
