Make sure you're using a clean Multitrack with no effects added at all. Even so, as Steve mentions, you'll suffer some latancy. A great solution is to grab a USB mic or audio interface that has direct monitoring like the AKG LYRA or Focusrite 2i2.

All monitoring that goes via Audition is going to suffer from latency, regardless of whether you use an ASIO driver or not. Most of the delay is simply the processing time through the software and to a degree the hardware (you have to do an A/D and then a D/A to get the signal back out, and neither of these is zero latency), and you can't reduce that. It's normal not to monitor via Audition, but do it directly from your sound device (so it's a hardware connection with no latency). Now I realise that with a basic PC and a usb mic, that isn't going to be easy, which is why we strongly don't recommend using them where monitoring is a necessity, I'm afraid - unless you get one with a headphone socket on it. These are made to get around this problem specifically, and have a monitoring path within the mic itself, and a headphone socket. Typical examples are the Rode NT-USB, the Samson Meteor USB and the Razer Seiren X.
