Audition losing audio track

I record a track in Mutitrack, pull it up in Waveform, adjust the volume, and the audio disappears!  When I re-call it up in Multitrak, it appears the audio is there, but it will not play.  Going back to Waveform, the track is empty.  Have I lost this track permanently?  Why did this occur?
