Audition - Mic USB and Line in Mic (from motherboard) on two different channel

Hello everybody,

I'm writing you because I can't figure out what's happenning and I couldn't find any answer or relative question to my problem.

I have a USB MIC (UM1) that works like a charm and I have an IPAD connected to the mic line in on my motherboard.

I want to be able to record simulatniously from both on different channels in audition but I'm unable to select the MIC for one channel and the Line in for the other. If I go the the audio preference, it seems that it is either one or the other but I can't not attribute both. For the moment I found a workaround that allows me to record both on the same channel (by capturing from Windows audio hardware) and making the audio listening and playing on both, but it is not what I want because I'm unable to edit separately the streams they are mixed up in one. 

Do you any solutions? What did I do wrong?

    No, you'll have to drop the USB mic and get a normal (XLR) one. If you use the ASIO driver, it will only let you connect a single audio device, and everything has to plug into that. But that does give you multi-channel capability, which the MME driver won't. And it will sound better; USB mics are always a bit of a compromise. But you will be able to select each input as a mono channel, and record that as a track on it's own, yes.

    I'm assuming that this is a PC...

     

    Microsoft simply won't let you do things like this - it's down to the drivers, and nothing to do with recording software. The only sensible way of recording separate inputs on different channels is to use an external audio interface, with an ASIO driver, rather than the essentially limited MME one which only allows one single sterero input at a time. That's the sensible solution; you could attempt to find a way to channel both inputs to either side of a stereo channel using Virtual Audio Cable - but that is an absolute nightmare to set up.

    You're assuming right.

    So, if I understood correctly the best solution would be to buy an external audio interface as a Focusrite Scarlet 2i2. 

    Would I be able to keep the my USB Mic on different channel than the new 2 that I will get from the 2i2, or I will have the same problem and I will have to choose between one line with the USB Mic or 2 from the external audio ?

    Just to know if I have to give back my USB Mic and buy an XLR one.
