audition not recording after asio download

I would suggest that rather than using ASIOfree, that you try ASIO4ALL instead. But be aware that none of these programs are actual ASIO drivers - they are interfaces between ASIO-based software (like Audition) and normal Windows drivers, and as such will make no difference to the latency. A proper ASIO driver is only provided by the manufacturer of whatever device it is you are using, and it bypasses most of the operating system - which is how it manages to decrease the latency. So if you have a proper ASIO driver for whatever it is you've plugged in - well that's one thing. All the rest though, aren't. ASIO4ALL is helpful though, as it has built-in diagnostics, which enable you to get a clearer idea of what isn't working properly. Which Rode device is it that you have?

Please note that as far as Audition is concerned, if the transport fails to move, you can guarantee that you have a driver or connectivity  issue - nothing else causes that.
