Audition Periodically Shuddering and Then Playing Back Silence?

This is not "strictly" and Audition issue, I don't think. Because it also periodically happens in Reaper. But I'll be merrily editing and suddenly (about every 15 - 30 minutes), the controls/cursor will shudder/stutter, and then continue playback, but with no sound! this is resolved by saving, shutting Audition down, waiting 5 seconds, and then restarting Audition. But this wastes a lot of time.

This happens on my Windows 10 computer using a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 (3rd gen) interface.

Has anyone experienced this? If so, was there a solution?

BTW, this does not happen on the MacBook.
