Question

Audition - recording output

I have a mixer and I have the output connected to the input of the computer. If I record speech on a mic on one of the channels, it records perfectly in Audition. However, if I try to record what ever is playing on my computer speakers, just static or a buzz is recorded in audition. I tried connecting the output of the computer to the input of my mixer and see that the mixer is receiving audio, but Audition still does not. I saw on here a product called VAC, so I installed it, changed my preferences in Audition, but still nothing.

Whilst it's possible to get VAC to do this, correctly routing it is a nightmare. If you want to record streaming audio, a much better way to do it is to use software that's dedicated to the task of thwarting the RIAA and Microsoft's efforts to prevent you doing so. I use a program called SoundTap Streaming Audio Recorder (NCH Software) to do this - it works flawlessly. And one of the main reasons that programs like this exist is precisely because it is so difficult to get this to work...
