Audition Update Disk Cache Question

I record my podcast on Audition using a Presonus Fire Studio mixer, Heil PR40 mic, and Skype.

Upon updating to Audition 2008, I'm seeing a warning statement (see attached screen shot) regarding disk cache preferences. When I go to Media & Disk Cache, see second screen shot) what should I click or un-click to keep this warning from appearing?

This interests me too. I am trying to set up as a new user of Audition. In Preferences/Media & Disk Cashe

I have an iMac several years old on a high sierra operating system. use Creative Cloud working on desk top

I have external drives where I try to keep media. Want to know how to set up preferences so that work and sources are all on external drive(s). Where to start?

Right now I have imported media and can see its Audition file but don't know where it is located.

Where to begin?

Ah, Macs... Nobody mentioned them previously!

The same principles should apply, but as Macs use a different way of working

the hardware, you need to address this differently. I'm not a Mac user (relatively few of us are here) but my understanding is that as far as your machine is concerned, there's some sort of 'root' drive, and almost certainly this should be where the temp folder should reside, but I would like it very much if the devs could confirm or refute this!

The basic principles of Audition use as far as ideal drive allocation is concerned are simple; keep temp files on one drive, the program files on your system drive, and all your work on a third, ideally backed up to a physically seperate drive as well.

For a start, you should be making sure that this temp location is actually available, and that it can be sritten to, as Audition thinks otherwise. In general it's a bad idea to have the temp space in a user's space as it will almost certainly screw up if another user tries to access it. Much better to have it on a disk on its own (ideal) or at least on the root drive.

Hello Steve -

Please excuse my ignorance. Where would you recommend I change the Primary Temp location to? My desktop or another location? I'm not clear as to what you mean "on a disk on its own or at least on the root drive".

It's pretty simple - if you navigate to your C: drive and right-click on it, you get an option to create a new folder. Create one called 'temp' (or anything else - it doesn't matter what it's called) and set Audition's temp location to whatever you call it. All you need to do is browse to the new location and use that in place of the current setting. If you have a permanently connected external drive you can do exactly the same thing on that - Audition doesn't care about the location as long as it can see it and write to it.
