Audition waveform only records in milliseconds before stopping itself

Question

I recently bought a new XLR mic and M-Audio Duo interface to start voice recording. I have everything hooked in properly and I can hear myself in the mic, but when I try to record in Audition, using the waveform, it only records for a few milliseconds then stops.

Try right-clicking on the Record button and make sure that you aren't in Timed Record Mode - that would do it...It should look like this for normal recording in Waveform view:
