Ive got a lot of clips on the one track after syncing some vocals. When I try to merge two clips, the shape of the waveforms changes in one channel or drops a channel altogether. I dont understand why. There are no clip effects on one separately.

 

I would like to be able to know why some clips can merge successfully (on the same track) and others cannot.

I'm afraid we need more information. Can you tell us exactly what you're doing? What files have you started with (in terms of whether they're mono or stereo) and exactly what processing steps are you taking? With Audition there are many different ways of achieving results, and that leaves rather a lot of possibilities. Some screengrabs might help, too.

 

I would say though that you can't actually 'merge' clips in multitrack view - it's a sophisticated playback engine that doesn't actually touch the files at all. Whatever you achieve is basically the computated result of what you've played back, but nothing like merging occurs until you do the final mix or export. It does obey the laws of physics though, so there will be an explanation for what is happening.

thank you so much for responding Steve. I had inadvertently had the pan all the way down so when the two clips were merged, it dropped out the right channel. I have since figured it out. All good.
