bug: crash upon starting new recording in Audition 2018

Long time Audition user experiencing something new with 2018 version. Nearly every time I start a new, clean file – either via hitting the record button or by selecting "New File" – and choosing either a mono or a stereo recording, 96KHz, 24-bit, as I have done for years, when the window closes and the GUI opens the main window, I get a system freeze. Every time this happens, the window is strangely defaulted as zoomed in to sample level, too, as opposed to zoomed out to view the waveform "drawing" as it records as normal. This is on a 2012 Mac Pro, 32 GB memory, very fast hard drives, running OS Sierra. Sound card is Apogee Duet for Mac/iPad.

I've never had any issue like this with Audition before, ever, until the upgrade. Creating a new file first, then hitting "record", doesn't stop the problem from happening. The problem happens maybe 75% of the time. Help?

Worth mentioning here that whatever the most recent update(s) to Audition were seemed to have solved this issue.

    Problem here is that I don't get a "crash", but a freeze. I get the "spinning ball of death", therefore no crash report is generated. I have to force quit.

    Have you actually checked? Just forcing a quit is usually enough to create a log/report that will at least give clues as to what's happening*. What actually happens is that Audition creates a report each time it opens, but generally these are dispensed with the next time you open it, as there's no point in keeping them if everything's okay. So if you find the last report before re-opening, it should be the one you need, although if strange things are happening, there may be more... the thing to do is to navigate to the log files with Audition closed - then you'll see the last one anyway.

    * This process isn't really creating one - it's just not destroying the previous one.
