Question

Can a Vocoder be used to generate Voice-over?

Greetings,

I am making a short Animated film in which I have children and a witch.

Since this is low-budget work, I would like to use my own voice as a reference (for acting out emotion, emphasis, etc).

Amazon has an AWS utility called Polly which does Text to Speech in different voices, e.g. English-Australian with Male, Female, young girl/ boy characters. However, the problem with Polly is that there is no emotion/ Voice acting ability in it.it

I  was wondering whether I could use some software plugin (such as a Vocoder perhaps) which would take my voice as a reference, but generate speech in a voice similar to Polly's output?

Thanks in advance for your reply.

Regards,

Rajnesh

With the best will in the world, you can't avoid the fact that using a vocoder to generate musical speech is going to give it even less emotional content - the results invariably sound more mechanical.

If you use the right controls with them, the voice synthesiser built into windows (and directly accessible from Audition) can be made to put a degree of emphasis onto the speech it generates - have you thought about trying that?

Thank you for your reply, Steve.

Although I'm on a Mac,  it's sure to have something similar. I'll try it out and see how it sounds, then come back with the results.

Take care.
