Question

Can I use standard audio license for podcast?

Hello!

I tried the free-trial of adobe and got to license 10 audio tracks for free. Now I'm wondering whether I can use those licenses for my podcast? Couldn't find answers from licensing terms.

So could anyone give me an answer? Can I use standard Adobe Audio licensed music for my podcast as intro?

Interesting. The download may be free, and it may be royalty-free, but it still needs to be licensed as a separate process before you can legitimately use it. If you purchase a stock subscription, then yes, you can license it and use it. What's not so clear is what happens if you try to license a piece whilst using the free trial - you may have to try this to see what happens. If it's successful you'll end up with a license code, at which point you should be good to go. Thing to do is to try it and report back, then we'll all know!

There is a page about Adobe stock here. If you scroll down it you will get to the bit about licensing (which carefully avoids this issue). There's also a page about license terms here which points out that there are indeed different levels of licensing - it's a bit of a minefield .

Thank you for your message!

The thing is I got the License code. What's unclear for me is that can I use the standard license for podcast.

The licensing terms say:

The Audio Extended License is required for projects which will be distributed via:

  • TV or Radio
  • Paid-access on-demand or streaming video
  • Apps or Video Games
  • Theatrical releases
  • Physical Point-of-Sale Locations

But does podcast fall into any of those? It's going to be distributed via Spotify, soundcloud, Apple music etc.

I think that most people would argue that podcasts are a sub-genre of radio, but don't quote me on that!
