Can play back, but recording is problem

I just got a new Microsoft Surface Book. I had been doing my work on my ASUS laptop. Both are running Windows 10. ASUS running Audition 2015 version. Surface Book running Audition 2017. I can access my old sessions. I can play older wav and mp3 files on Surface Book. But when I record, I get garbled audio. I used MME in ASUS and everything was fine. Tried MME and ASIO4All in Surface Book and got garbled audio in both. Any ideas what might be going on? The only difference I can see is in Audition, 2015 vs 2017. HELP!!!

How are you getting the audio into the laptop to record? Unfortunately we can't be sure what 'garbled' sounds like unless we can hear a bit to try and work out what's going on. Can you post a clip from one of your 'garbled' recordings somewhere like Dropbox for us to listen to.

Here's a link to the garbled audio.

My setup: mic into an older (2010?) Alesis USB Multimix8 mixer into my USB port on my Surface Book.

Well, the first thing I'd try would be to install (or reinstall) the appropriate Alesis drivers from your Multimix.  They're available here:  Alesis MultiMix 8 USB 2.0   I also notice they list a firmware update.  (That's assuming you have the Multimix 2--the original original lists no drivers at all.
