CD Layout issue

Had you noticed that all of the duration times are zero? 😉

You've almost got there, but you left out a step. In order to place sound onto a CD layout, you can't use markers on their own, because they only represent single points in time. What you have to do is turn them into marker ranges. Assuming that you want to include everything in your file (although you don't absolutely have to) then you need to take the following steps: Firstly you need a marker at the start and end of each track. So if it starts at the beginning of the file, you need a marker there. And the same goes for the end of the file, if that's where the audio stops. A single marker at each point during the file marking the track breaks (which you already have) is all that's required next. Now there's the step you didn't do, which is to turn all those marker points into marker ranges.

To do this, you have to highlight all of the markers in the marker list. And then, next to the dustbin box at the top is a strange icon which, if you hover over it, says Merge Selected Markers', and you click on this. All of a sudden you have one less item in the list, but now all of your markers are ranges, and now all you have to do is change the cue type to CD Track, and you're good to go - they will insert into your CD layout.

Points to note: You don't have to include everything in your file. If you just want selected regions, you can make them into individual marker ranges simply by highlighting the selection with the mouse and hitting F8 - that will automatically create a range. You can insert them into the layout in a different order if you want, as well. Also note that you can't have a track that's less than 4 seconds long (that's a Red Book limitation). One other thing you should do before creating any of the markers at all is to change the time display to Compact Disk 75fps and make sure that Snap to Frames is selected in the snapping options. This will ensure that all of your markers end up on CD frame boundaries, and you don't end up with strange clicks and gaps in your final result. There are 75 little boxes per second on a CD, and if you try to stop part-way through one, the remainder of the box will be filled with silence - hence the clicks.
