Question

Change playhead end position while playing

In Premiere when the timeline is playing, if I click later in the timeline the playhead goes straight to that position, I can then press play again and the timeline will play from that position. This is a great way to be able to skip through clips and get a quick idea of what is in it.

In Audition though when the timeline is playing, if I click later in the timeline instead of the play head moving I get a second semi transparent playhead (dotted red line vs solid red line), and if I then press play again it simply pauses. Is there any way to make Audition's timeline to work similar to Premiere's?

Yes, you should be able to do this. You need to go to Edit>Preferences>Playback and arrange the boxes to look like this:

You may have to click on the 'return playhead to start position' a couple of times in order to 'ungrey' the Sroll control, but the combination I've set there appears to do what you want.

Hi SteveG, that is halfway there. To be clearer, when the timeline is playing I would like the playhead to keep playing after the playhead is moved. At the moment there is an auto pause when the playhead is moved so the spacebar has to be double tapped every time.

If the timecode is clicked on during play mode the playback continues, without pause, from wherever the playhead has been moved to. This is exactly what I would need but when clicking on the audio waveforms. It is more useful (at least in my workflow) to be able to click on the actual waveform since I can click exactly where there is a pause, or change etc while clicking on the timecode is only guessing. I hope this makes more sense SteveG.

Well, all the options there are at present are the ones you see. You have also got to bear in mind that technically, it's not a 'playhead' as such, but it's referred to as a CTI (Current Time Indicator), and its behaviour is based on this principle. Personally I don't have any trouble with clicking on a point on the timeline, as you can hold the mouse on it and drag it to precisely where you want it very easily, and indeed rapidly.
