Clear without rippling

How do I clear audio in the waveform editor without having it ripple delete? I other words, I make a selection, hit a key and the remaining audio stays in place? There should be a clear in place command. And I'm not talking about using the G key to clear the actual selection, I want to clear the audio within that selection without it being a ripple delete. Of course insert silence works but that's an extra keystroke. I know it's possible because at one time I had it set up as a custom key command. Thank you for any help.

Sorry! That was the previous screen shot. Here it is:

OK, I figured it out! There is Insert Silence in the edit menu (which is what gave me the extra OK button) and there is Silence in the Effects menu (go figure). Choosing that option immediately deletes audio without the pop-up window.

Assign Silence to a key (I use F) and then you've got it - 'hit a key and the remaining audio stays in place'.

Thanks Steve. Yes I have a key command assigned to silence but that still involves an extra keystroke (ok). Which may seem minor, but over time it adds up.

Yes, but how are you going to do it without at least a mouse movement and a click? You can't just make a selection and have it disappear, because that would mean that any selection you make would behave the same! So I'm suggesting that a mouse swipe and a single keystroke is going to be as good as it gets.
