Question

Combine audio tracks from different mics

I have an interview that I'm editing. I have 2 audio files, each from two different mics. Each mic is picking up audio from the other person. So there's waveform from each voice on both files. But obviously there's better quality on the the from each person's own mic. They're from the same recorder, so the files are exactly the same length and perfectly synced when lined up in multitrack.

Is there a way to combine the two files in a way that automatically chooses the better quality audio from each track? And cutting out the bad audio?

No, I'm afraid that's a manual task. Audition is inherently incapable of deciding what's better or worse - that's what your ears are for! If you use the track volume envelopes, it doesn't take that long, as a rule.
