Controller for Audition. Does anyone have a compatible device?

Hi Team,

The company I work for subscribes to Adobe CC and want me to stop using ProTools and swap to Audition. I am ready to comply but must have a suitable controller. Does anyone here have experienxce in using a fully functioning controller with Adobe Audition? I have read countless comments and suggestions but have not seen one instance of someone speaking of a successful pairing.

I have tested a Behringer X-Touch One and it's functions are limited to being a transport controller, Play Stop  Shuttle etc. I have used the same device to run ProTools with full functionality.

"Help me Adobe Support Community, you're my only hope?

My full-size X-Touch works well in Audition.

Hi Craig, the Red Rover looks great as a transpor controller and single source selectable channel editor. I like to be able to mute, record ready, solo, shuttle, play. rec, stop,  pretty everythihg I miss growing up using an analogue desk and tape recorder. I tuly appreciate the positive impact made to audio recording and editing by Protools and the ilk, but control via a keyboard and a mouse .... ew! On the upside, my day started with my company agreeing to a Protiools subscription as well and my existing Adobe CC license and I will now have the best of both worlds. 🙂

I don't know what you mean by "full functionality", but if you are looking for a controller to eliminate a mouse and keyboard for everything, I don't know that exists.  I have a Red Rover for basic controls in one studio, and a Presonus Faderport Classic for a little more functionality in another studio.  Mostly I get by with customizing the keyboard shortcuts.

At NAB, I've heard of a few people working with Mackie rigs, who simply say "get a Mackie". I don't have one, so I can't add any personal insights. There are people working ok with Behringer, but there are also horror stories of Behringer gear.

And ... everyone's mileage always varies. Sigh.

Yes I agree R Neil, each person has their own specific requirements. I just want touch fader channel select and full transport / shuttle /scrub control. I'll post back when I have chosen a controller.

Have you looked at something like the Contour Shuttle Pro

I use the cheaper Contour Shuttle Express with various programs, including Audition, because I don't need all the facilties that the Pro version offers.  Essentially all the buttons are programmable for each app you wish to use it with.  (As standard, there is an "Adobe Audition" configuration built-in but I don't know what the additional buttons on the Pro are mapped to.)

My reply won't be an answer I'm sorry to say, but it will just be a shared pain. My company did this to me a few years ago. I had a rather strong willed boss who insisted that I make an S3 Control Surface (which we had recently purchased to replace and aging 003, but not implemented yet) work with Audition. I had been on ProTools for years but the whole enterprise made the switch and I was left trying to appease this unrealistic expectation. Long story short- I never got it done of course. We ended up just improvising with a Mackie 1202 to make everything function. Of course there was no automation or anything, we just manually used it to route signal. In the end, I just got used to this setup and it serves us fine for the most part and there's a good chance that what you end up with will be far superior to this Frankenstonian thing we assembled. I do miss working with my 003 and I never got to experience the S3. The good news is, my misguided old boss is no longer with the company.

If you remember, please post your progress. I'd love to know where this takes you. I do hope you end up with a compromise that works for you.

Personally I don't know - but I can tell you why you don't get to hear of successful pairings; that's easy. By and large we only get to hear about problems here, not successful operation! FWIW, all the functionality I need I get from an old Red Rover, but that's far from any definition of 'complete'.

Thanks Steve. I'm trying a Presonus Faderport 8 today. Wish me luck.
