Convert mono multitrack session to stereo

Hi,

I tried converting my mono multitrack session to stereo by opening the session file in text editor and changing the word "mono" to "stereo" where it states the session type. The problem is that now it does say it's a stereo session when I open it in Audition but I hear everything only on one channel. Any idea why?
