Correct fluctuating highs automatically

Question

I have an old 3 track recording from the 50's, all 3 tracks separately: Left Piano and Guitar, Middle Drums and Vocal, and on the Right a Choir. Problem: The right tape recording with the choir has a recording error because the tape machine was defective. Result: The recording with the choir fluctuates SOMETHING periodically in volume - can easily be remedied with a compressor/limiter - but STRONG in the highs and brilliance. This makes the recording appear like it's droning, which it doesn't. The recording constantly alternates between clear and dull. Since the sequence is very fast and also irregular, you can't correct it manually - or you sit for weeks. My question: Is there a program, a plug-in, or some setting in Adobe Audition (or iZotpe etc) that I can use to automatically correct the fluctuations in the high frequencies of the recording? I'm thinking of a sample that you read in as a pattern, and Adobe automatically adapts the entire recording to this pattern. Maybe the solution is obvious and I'm blind right now. I would be very grateful for ideas. Sorry in advance for my English, I'm from Germany.

There's no built-in functionality which does what a pair of ears does in Audition - and that goes for iZotope too. And that's what you'd need, I'm afraid. I wondered whether anybody had made any plugins that might attempt to do this, but I haven't found any - and if I did, would I trust them? Probably not.

At least if you put the troublesome track into Audition's multitrack view you could use the Parametric Eq to get it to sound a little better, and also make dynamic changes via the automation system, and that would probably be your best bet. It also has the advantage that you can go back and tweak bits until you've got it as good as you can. But I have to say, this is what your ears are for - there's nothing else available that can make these corrections for you on a dynamic basis.

The only program that I can think of that might be able to help with some of your problems is Har-Bal - there's an SOS review of it here and their website is here: Har-Bal - but I should warn you that there's something of a learning curve...
