Crossfade adjacent clips without overlapping?

New to Audition, Logic Pro X user.

 

In Logic, when I ripple delete everything to the right of my cut point moves to the left and I can immediately apply a cross fade to the selected tracks by simply dragging out a fade from the fade region (top corner) of the now adjacent clips. It seems that in Audition after a ripple delete I have to "Select Clips to the End of Session," which I've assigned to a keyboard shortcut, and manually drag them just a bit back to the left so there is an overlap before I can apply a cross fade. Is that correct? If that's the way Audition works that might be a deal breaker for me. I make hundreds of cuts in every edit and although it only takes a second to select everything and drag it back to allow a crossfade it's an extra step that will add time to the edit. Thanks for any tips you can pass along.

No, it's not correct - if I've understood you correctly. You have to bear in mind that there are four Ripple Delete commands, and that two of them will automatically eliminate the gap - either in one clip, or a time selection in all the clips you've highlighted. So if you select Ripple Delete>Time selection in all tracks (Ctrl+Shift+Backspace) it will take out the time you've selected, and butt the joins. The clever bit is that if you leave all of the clips selected, just dragging the clip edge back to achieve a crossfade on one of them will in fact do the same crossfade for all of the selected clips. Obviously if you want different crossfades. then you have to deselect and then reselect the appropriate clips. The options are pretty flexible, one way or another, and if you select the right one, then you don't have to do a 'Select Clips to End of Session' at all.

Thanks for answering. It's the overlap requirement for a crossfade that seems odd to me. For example, if I've just ripple deleted a time selection and two clips are now butted together, the deleted section is still accessible which is why I can use the trim tool to adjust the cut, however when it comes to a crossfade the software acts like there is no more data on either side of the cut and therefore nothing to crossfade unless I manually move one of the clips to overlap the other.

No, you don't have to move the clip - you use the drag handle (either on the clip leading in, or the one you've just rippled back to extend it for the fade. All the data that was there in the first place is still there. In fact moving the clips any further rather defeats the purpose of the ripple delete! Just to make it as clear as I can, here's a gif showing it working:
