CS6 not finding my external Firewire device

This is a new behavior I can't account for and can't seem to fix. I have long used AA CS6 with a Firewire-connected Focusrite Pro40 preamp/audio interface. All my input and output flows through it. Now, all of a sudden, the Audio Hardware dialog doesn't see it; all I have for choices are Built-in Microphone and Built-in Output. I am on a Mac, High Sierra OS 10.13.6.

Now here's the kicker, If I look at the Mac's "About" hardware list, I DO see my Focusrite unit connected via Firewire. So the Mac sees it but AA doesn't. Huh?

I can't quite see how this happened without warning, unless there was some kind of background update that did it. But I know I have a connected Firewire audio device. Why doesn't Audition know? I'm dead in the water.

I don't have a Mac, but one thing that seems to have screwed a lot of Mac users recently is that they've introduced a security setting that prevents you using a mic at all unless you over-ride it. Strikes me that if you can see the interface being present, but can't access it, then you might well have this issue...

I think you are on to something, SteveG. It looks like a driver update for my Focusrite unit fixed it, but I had to explicitly permit it to be loaded first. Now things look good. Thanks!
