Desktop Audio as Default Input MME Windows 10

Question

Hey there!I'm trying to record desktop audio into Audition for a Zoom meeting. I'm having trouble connecting to a Default Input in Audio Hardware. As you can see from the stills attached, there is no input detected. In the dropdown, I see my USB plug web cam and not wanting that because I am not speaking in the meeting and only picks up audio from that mic and not desktop. I can hear the desktop audio through my headphones just fine through the plug in jack directly in my desktop PC. Why isn't Audition reading my desktop audio as an input and output?  I have a Zoom H6 recorder. Would buying a 3.5 jack splitter and a 3.5 jack to male XLR do the trick? Thanks!

There are still a number of machines around that simply won't let you record 'What You Hear' because the RIAA put the frighteners on their manufacturers several years ago, saying that it would make them liable for copyright infringements. Unfortunately this means that you can't easily record quite legitimately from this source, as you are trying to do. If you have anything like this selected as the recording source, and Audition doesn't see it, that's almost certainly what's happening, I'm afraid.

There are a few programs around that can circumvent this behaviour. On this laptop (which has the same problem) I use SoundTap streaming recorder, which sets itself up and just gets on with the job. (I have no affilitation with them other than as a satisfied customer, and if you look around, you'll find that there are other apps available)

The other option of course is to become a paid member of Zoom - then it will let you record meetings anyway.
