Edits freeze and delay before executing

I use Auditio 2021 (recent Apple update), and began having difficulty editing. Software doesn't recognize my commands and launches the color wheel. If I continue editing, the system goes through all my commands. By the time I wait this out, a significant amount of time has lapsed. I'm a fast editor paid to perform this service. Rebooting does not help. Any guidance or suggestions. I use macOS Big Sur 11.5
