Yes - if you put a real-time effect on a channel you're recording you will hear that effect in the monitor output. What that won't do is actually print the wet effect to the track - so if you play the track after you've recorded it and remove the effect, it will go. This is regarded as good practice - simply because if you record it wet and don't like it, you can't go back and change it.
